Outreach

St Philip’s Outreach Team supports the local community and the wider world community through several ongoing projects.  It involves many enthusiastic volunteers, keen to make a small difference in international and more local issues, such as poverty and homelessness.

This year we plan to raise some money for Asha, a project set up to support and empower local people living in shanty towns in India.  Christian Aid continues to be supported raising funds via door to door collections in May each year.  We also have several fundraising events during the year with Christmas Concerts and Burns evenings to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.
FreshStart and the Foodbank continue to be enthusiastically supported by members of the congregation.
A more recent project that we are supporting involves the re-cycling first aid kits and is now underway.  This allows first aid kits, that would otherwise be discarded, to be sent to places such as Syria and further afield providing much needed basic first aid equipment to communities in these countries.   A good cause indeed!
Over the last few years we have done a great deal of work with the Bethany Christian Trust, working with the care van project  and the night shelter providing supporting local homeless folk with.  One of our team  is involved with discussions with Sheila Gilmour, MP to continue to raise these issues more centrally.
We look forward to next year when the three churches merge and bring new interesting outreach issues and resources.
