Bethany Christian Trust

The Bethany Trust – who are they and what do they do?
This is an organisation that St Philip’s has been supporting over the last three years in several ways.

The Night Shelter
We have had teams of seven volunteers who go out to a central church from November to March, when its cold and wintry. There they  spend the early evening preparing a hearty meal for 35-55 homeless folk.  There is always fun with many ladies in one kitchen, and a super opportunity to enhance fellowship within the group.  The young homeless folk greatly value this service and would be much the worse off if it did not continue.  This is such a rewarding simple activity for us too.  The team compose of 2-3 men, one driver and ladies to guide us with the complexity of cooking for such a large party.  If you are interested in helping in any way; cooking, driving or shopping for the group contact any of the outreach team.

The Care Van
This is run 365 days of the year in the evening and will soon also offer a service at weekend lunchtimes.  Here, there is usually a team of 5 folk, 2 men, one driver and 2/3 ladies.  We tour the centre of Edinburgh stopping at 4-5 main stops offering  simple hot drinks ,home made soup, fruit, rolls, biscuits and clothing .  It is always well received.  It is so simple, but valued by the homeless folk.  If you are interested to know more or help in any way contact the outreach team.  We often need hats gloves socks, various clothing, blankets and any donation would be very welcome.
